Anweisungen:

  1. Wash your hands and prepare a clean surface.
  2. Take one slice of whole grain bread. For a younger baby (4–7 months) cut off and discard the crusts so pieces are soft; for older babies (8–10 months) you may leave a little crust. Cut the slice into 6–8 finger-sized strips (about 1–1.5 cm wide) that the baby can grasp.
  3. Halve the avocado, remove the stone and scoop out the flesh. Cut the avocado into slices or lengthwise strips about 1 cm thick so they are easy to hold, or mash slightly with a fork to make a soft spread that will stick to the bread.
  4. Spoon a thin layer of cottage cheese onto each bread strip (about 10–15 g per strip). Top with avocado slices or a small spoonful of mashed avocado so it adheres to the cottage cheese.
  5. Offer one strip at a time to your baby. Sit the baby upright and supervise closely while they self-feed. Encourage chewing and keep the remainder on the plate; remove any piece if the baby struggles to manage it.
Summary

Baby-friendly breakfast for baby-led weaning: whole grain bread strips topped with cottage cheese and avocado. Soft textures and narrow strips encourage independent grasping and chewing for babies 4–10 months who are ready for finger foods.

Storing options

Assemble just before serving. Cut avocado browns quickly—store unused cut avocado with the stone in an airtight container in the fridge and use within 24 hours. Cottage cheese should be stored in its original container and used within the manufacturer’s recommended time once opened (typically 3–5 days). Prepared bread with toppings may become soggy and is best eaten immediately; refrigerate leftovers separately and consume within a few hours.

Allergies

Cottage cheese contains milk; do not give to babies with known milk protein allergy. Introduce each new food one at a time and wait 2–3 days to monitor for allergic reactions.

Side effects and precautions

Supervise every mouthful to reduce choking risk. Remove crusts for younger babies if needed and offer appropriately sized soft strips. If you notice rash, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling, or difficulty breathing after feeding, stop feeding and seek medical attention immediately.
