Anweisungen:

  1. Rinse 60 g quinoa under cold water until water runs mostly clear. In a small saucepan combine the quinoa with 180 ml water, bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer 12–15 minutes until water is absorbed and grains are fluffy. Remove from heat and let sit covered 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.
  2. Peel the carrot and cut into toddler-friendly batons about 5–6 cm long and 1–1.5 cm thick. Remove core and seeds from the bell pepper and cut into similar-sized strips.
  3. Steam the carrot batons for 8–10 minutes and the bell pepper strips for 6–8 minutes until soft enough to be squashed with a fork but still hold their shape. Alternatively, toss with a light drizzle of olive oil and roast at 200°C for 12–15 minutes until tender. Allow to cool to lukewarm before serving.
  4. Drain and rinse 120 g black beans (if using canned). Place beans in a bowl and mash roughly with a fork so some texture remains. Stir in the cooked quinoa and 5 g olive oil until combined; the mixture should hold together enough to form small patties—if it’s too loose, let it cool slightly to firm up.
  5. Wet your hands and shape the mixture into 6 small toddler-sized patties (about 3–4 cm across). Heat a non-stick frying pan over low–medium heat with a very small drizzle of olive oil and cook the patties 2–3 minutes per side until lightly golden and set. Alternatively warm in an oven at 180°C for 8–10 minutes.
  6. Let all items cool to lukewarm. Serve a few quinoa–black bean patties alongside carrot and bell pepper batons. Cut or break larger pieces into sizes appropriate for your child. Encourage baby-led picking and self-feeding while closely supervising the meal.
Summary

This toddler-friendly lunch combines protein-rich black beans and quinoa with soft vegetable batons for an easy baby-led weaning meal (10+ months). No added salt or strong spices; a little olive oil gives healthy fat and helps texture.

Storing

Store cooked patties and vegetables in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Reheat until warm (not hot) and check temperature before serving. Do not refreeze after reheating.

Allergies & Side effects

Contains legumes (black beans) which can cause wind; introduce gradually. Ensure pieces are soft and appropriately sized to minimise choking risk. Always supervise the child during meals. If there is a known legume allergy, do not serve and consult your paediatrician before introducing new foods.
